Meeting people in London

A practical guide to meeting people offline in London — Run Dem Crew, Midnight Runners, Mundo Lingo, Draughts, Swing Patrol, Timeleft and 222 dinners, speed dating (£10–30), Thursday events, first-date spots and Ask for Angela.

In England, younger adults are the loneliest: 9% of 16–24-year-olds and 8% of 25–34-year-olds feel lonely often or always, double the rate of people in their late 60s. London has more ways to meet people than almost anywhere — the trick is choosing something that repeats.

Social run clubs

  • Run Dem Crew — founded 2007. Tuesdays, meet around 6:30pm at Old Spitalfields Market, free, no booking, about 5 km.
  • Midnight Runners — free; the meeting point changes weekly and is posted on Instagram and the Heylo app.
  • parkrun — Saturdays 9am, free, in parks across London.

Language exchange, games, climbing, dance

  • Mundo Lingo London — weekly, free; you wear flag stickers for the languages you speak.
  • Draughts — London's first board-game café (2014), in Waterloo, Hackney and Stratford.
  • Bouldering: The Castle (Stoke Newington, the UK's largest climbing centre), Yonder (Walthamstow, with a café-bar), The Arch (four sites).
  • Swing Patrol — weekly Lindy Hop classes all over London; no partner needed, partners rotate. The "Swing Den" beginners' social near Liverpool Street starts with a taster lesson.
  • Padel Social Club — Earl's Court and The O2, with a bar for after the match.

Dinners with strangers

  • Timeleft — dinners Wednesday and Friday 7pm, women-only on Mondays, singles dinners on Tuesdays, drinks on Thursday, coffee on Saturday, runs and walks at weekends. Areas include Soho, Chelsea, Shoreditch and London Bridge.
  • 222 — groups of six after a personality quiz, then a bigger mixer at a second venue.
