Meeting people in Berlin

A practical guide to meeting people offline in Berlin — Berlin Social Runners, language exchanges, Spielwiese game nights, bouldering, Clärchens Ballhaus dance nights, speed dating (€10–30), Thursday events, first-date spots and safety.

Berlin is a city of people living alone: half of all Berlin households are one person, and in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg it's almost 60%. It's also one of the easiest cities in Europe to meet people — if you join things that repeat. Everything below happens weekly or regularly. Schedules change, so check the organiser's page before you go.

Social run clubs

  • Berlin Social Runners — free, running since 2013. Saturday 10:00 "coffee run" from Tiergarten; Tuesday evening speed sessions (meeting point posted on Strava).
  • About 60 more groups are listed on run-clubs.eu — Kreuzberg, Mitte and Tempelhofer Feld all have regulars.
  • Thursday also runs a singles run club every other week.

Run clubs work because the pace sorts you into small groups and the coffee or beer afterwards is where the conversations happen.

Language exchanges

  • German-English Language Exchange — every Tuesday in Kreuzberg, running for more than 17 years.
  • Berlin Lingua Hub — Denizen House, Köpenicker Str. 40: Mondays (A1–B2) and Wednesdays (A2–C1), plus a monthly tandem.
  • Big Meetup groups: English-Stammtisch "E-Tisch" and Café des Langues, both with thousands of members.

Games, climbing and dancing

  • Spielwiese (Kopernikusstr. 24, Friedrichshain, since 2006) — open game night on Mondays for €4. Turn up alone and join a table.
  • Bouldering: Ostbloc (Rummelsburg, Berlin's oldest), Berta Block (Prenzlauer Berg, the largest), Boulderklub Kreuzberg.
  • Clärchens Ballhaus (Auguststr. 24, Mitte) — Monday salsa taster class then a party (€8), Tuesday swing for beginners, Wednesday tango class and milonga. Partners rotate, so you'll talk to everyone.

Dinners with strangers and volunteering

  • Timeleft — dinners with 4–6 strangers every Wednesday; the restaurant is revealed on the day.
  • Volunteering: engagiertes.berlin (the city's portal), vostel.de and GoVolunteer list one-off and regular roles, many in English.
